“Vini di Puglia IV” Press tour

The tour was organised by the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia as part of the CMO 2013 – 2014 promotion programme, and brought the 2013-2014 activities to an end. The guest journalists were able to discover some of the many facets of the region’s wine trade and culture, and the tour gave these wine experts – writing for two of the key export markets for Puglia’s wines – a precious opportunity to get to know the regional traditions and also to meet the local wine-growers and wine and food operators. The international guests on the tour were all renowned journalists. Two guests arrived from New Jersey in the USA: Wine Media Guild memberJohnFoy*writes for “The New Jersey Star-Ledger”, and is a wine, gastronomy and restaurant expert with over thirty years’ experience of wine reporting, whileAdele Capelais a wine importer and freelance writer for the Italian-American “Italian Tribune”. Wine, food and travel expertDeborah Grossmanfrom the USA’s West Coast is a freelance, writing for such important publications as Wine Enthusiast, Drink Me, The Culinary National Review, the San Francisco Chronicle and Napa Valley Life. The other three tour guests came from China: journalistGary Chuwrites about wine, food and cigars for Style Weekly (Guangdong Region), Yangcheng Evening News (Guangzhou) and Modern Weekly; the two Hong Kong journalists on the tour werePavan Shamdasani, young freelance journalist and already an established collaborator with TIME, CNN, South China Morning Post and Prestige magazine, andMark Hammons, connoisseur of fine food and wines, and also editor and founder of Tasting Kitchen (TK) magazine, which specialises in selecting and reviewing Asia’s best restaurants. The journalists visited eight wineries representing the achievements of Puglia’s wine sector:Carvineaof Carovigno (Br),Castel di Salveof Depressa of Tricase (Le),Duca Carlo Guariniof Scorrano (Le),Tenute Eméraof Lizzano (Ta),Motturaof Tuglie (Le), Rivera of Andria,Tormarescaof Minervino Murge (Bt) andVigne&Viniof Leporano (Ta). Between winery tours and wine-tasting, these wineries enabled the six guests to take a close look at the most important aspects of the region’s wine trade, especially in connection with its native grape varieties.
